Weight Watcher Clinics
These are run by qualified veterinary nurses and are provided free of charge. Obesity in pets has become a significant health problem. With appropriate help and advice it is possible to make a real difference for those pets susceptible to excessive weight gain. Appointments to see the nurse on a one-to-one basis are made at regular intervals, giving the opportunity to weigh the animals concerned and advise on the best foods and ways of feeding. With a little commitment, impressive results can be seen.
You are welcome to book a free appointment with a nurse to assess your pet’s weight and dietary requirements.
Senior Pet Screening Checks
You can book an appointment with one of our Registered Veterinary Nurses to perform a routine “medical check” for the older animal. This will usually involve a routine blood screen, urine test and weight assessment. The value of these routine checks is that, in an economical way, they can identify a potential problem before it becomes obvious. (If an abnormality is identified, or suspected, then one of our veterinary surgeon will need to make any diagnosis or prescribe treatment as appropriate.) Very often problems are present in their early stages for a long while before they become bad enough to cause observable symptoms. Things such as liver or kidney disease for example can respond to simple treatment measures if recognised early on.
For just £7.50 you can book a 30 minute appointment with one of our Registered Veterinary Nurses to carry out the routine health screen and assessment of your pet. Included are a free urine test and a 20% discount on blood tests and some other services if they are chosen. Our aim is to advise you on preventative care, to identify any problems early on and help you manage them. Please ring for more information, or to book an appointment with Sarah or Leanne.
Clinics run by Leanne Moules (BSc Hons, RVN) and Sarah Wilcox (RVN, PHC).
Puppy and Kitten Growth Checks
These are available free of charge to all animals which have received their initial course of vaccinations with us. (Otherwise we charge the nurse consultation fee of £10.00) We feel it is helpful to see puppies and kittens at 4 to 5 months old (usually 1 to 2 months after their initial vaccination course). This is a good time to assess the animal's weight and general appearance and discus such matters as neutering, worm and flea control, insurance, microchips or any other issues of interest.
Puppy Parties
These are run by our nurses in the evenings after we are closed, and are usually great fun for all concerned. They perform many useful purposes too. Puppies can socialise with other dogs and different people in a controlled way, and can be shown that a veterinary building can be a fun place to be! The nurses also provide much useful information on many aspects of puppy care and training. There is a nominal fee for attending these classes (currently £10 for four evenings).
Nurse Training Centre
We have been officially approved as a training centre for veterinary nurses. This means that the standards of our facilities and the competence of our staff are regarded as of a sufficiently high standard for this task. It also shows our commitment to the development of our staff within the veterinary world. We are proud to be able to help in this way.
